Junior Kindergarten

Fredericton Christian Academy (FCA) is pleased to announce the introduction of a Junior Kindergarten (JK) program commencing in September 2022.

The JK program will be led and taught by our very own Sarah Duguid who has a wealth of knowledge and extensive experience in working with the pre-school and kindergarten age group. Sarah has a Bachelor’s of Education in early childhood learning and is excited to be a part of leading and introducing this new program for the families of Fredericton. The JK program will be for children who will be entering Kindergarten the following school year, or for those who may want an extra year of preparation and development before entering the Kindergarten program. The program will run Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 3:00pm. The FCA JK Program will ensure that the developmental needs of all children are met including their physical, social, intellectual, creative, and emotional needs. These needs will be met through daily physical activity; modelling of appropriate and respectful behaviour; snack time conversation; opportunities for children to feel challenged and make decisions/choices; opportunities to be creative through painting, crafting, singing, dancing, water play, sand play, and dramatic play all as part of providing authentic experiences through natural/real tools and materials. Students will also have access to the FCA AAA programming through enrichment in the Arts, Athletics (physical education), and a continued introduction to the core Academic fields of literacy and numeracy.

FCA seeks to recognize each child’s strengths and find opportunities to further their development, and are committed to building a caring, respectful environment for all children to learn and grow. The FCA JK program believes children learn best through meaningful play. Our play-based child-centred program reflects the integration of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, language, self-help and aesthetic areas for the total development of the child. Meaningful play encourages curiosity, discovery and problem-solving which allows individual growth and development of a positive and confident self-image. We hope to help each child build a sense of curiosity and wonder for the world around them. FCA has extensive outdoor play space for the children to use including a large field for playing and running. The JK class will also have access to the gymnasium during school times, as well as a large fenced in natural outdoor play space.

The JK will also have opportunities to integrate with the Kindergarten students and other FCA elementary grades. The JK teaching team will closely work with the elementary staff and administration in building a comprehensive, integrated, and seamless early foundational educational platform.
